Seed of various accessions of African vegetables are maintained in the ARC-Roodeplaat seed bank, most of which are mainly leafy vegetable species like Amaranthus spp, Cleome gynandra, Corchorus spp and Vigna unguiculata.S. Seed of some other traditional/indigenous crops like bambara groundnut (Vigna subterranea) and pigeon peas (Cajanus cajan) are also maintained.

Accessions of Plectranthus, Manihot, Solenostemon and amadumbe (Xanthosoma and Colocasia) are also maintained as field collections in the glasshouse while additional accessions of Plectranthus, Colocasia, and Manihot are maintained in vitro as well.
