How can you participate in SANSA?
We would like to invite everyone interested in arachnids (spiders, scorpions and other arachnids) in South Africa to participate in this national effort to document the arachnids of South Africa. Please contact us. We need your support. We invite you to take digital photographs of arachnids in nature (and your houses and garden) and to submit these along with some basic information (see below) by email to SANSA. The specimens will be identified and you'll receive the information asap. The images and data will be added to our "virtual museum collection" which is available online for everybody to share. Unfortunately many spiders are small and we need the specimen to do a species identification. However, some larger species could be identified and a family and genus name will already go a long way towards informing and making people aware of our rich arachnid fauna.(information sheet) If you do not have a camera but would still like to participate we can provide you with collecting material. On receiving these collected specimens we will identify them for you and provide a list of names asap. The material will be incorporated into the database of the South African National Collection of Arachnida. - Participating in collecting trips
If you are interested in participating in collecting trips please contact us. Or if you have a farm or are a reserve manager and would like to know the diversity of the arachnid fauna of your farm or reserve you are welcome to contact us as well.
