Research in this programme centres on the ecotoxicological risk
and environmental impact assessments of quelea control operations in terrestrial
and wetland biomes.
Terrestrial biomes
Pesticide fate and behaviour in the environment is followed in
biotic matrices (invertebrates, vertebrates, plants) as well as abiotic matrices
(water, air-borne residues and soil). In addition, integrated decision support
systems are being developed to assist managers in the integrated control of
redbilled quelea in South Africa.
